When a child applies for the Ronald McDonald Learning Program, they'll first undergo a thorough comprehensive assessment that may include the areas of:
The written report of these assessments are then used to obtain a better understanding of the needs, strengths and weaknesses of the individual student's learning. This then forms the basis of their educational plan.
Each program is tailored depending upon the child's needs, location and family situation. Most children will receive up to four school terms of one-on-one tuition with a qualified and registered teacher, along with speech and/or occupational therapy if required. The program is provided free to families and available in both metropolitan and country areas.
The RMLP is praised by parents and teachers alike. Children in the program generally have improved educational and social skills, fewer school absences, increased self-esteem and confidence and improved class participation and behaviour.
RMLP improved my daughter's self esteem so she was ready to try instead of thinking everything was too hard. It made her feel special and it made her feel successful.
The first thing Dean developed was confidence to "have a go." The one-on-one tutoring quickly and successfully bridged the 2-year gap he missed while sick. Worst thing about the program: Having to finish!
Tyler found it extremely difficult to settle in. He used to say that he hated school and thought he was dumb. It was very distressing for him and us as parents. With the help of the Ronald McDonald Learning Program he has a new attitude to school and life in general. He has turned full circle. To see him and his teacher working together is a magical moment.
