Take a look at some recent Ronald McDonald Learning Program graduates who have achieved their goals, and are back on track in school.
Jesse is one step closer to his career ambitions to be a builder or a postman after graduating from the RMLP. Jesse was born with cystic fibrosis and because of frequent stays in hospital, he misses out on attending school for prolonged periods. Linda Preziuso his RMLP teacher designed an individual program for Jesse to assist him to further develop his literacy skills to keep up with his peers. His mother reported that Jesse enjoyed his time with Linda especially as she made learning fun. Jesse is an inspiration to everyone for his determination to get back to school and live a normal life.
12 year old Hobart pupil Merran Grace was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2007. Due to her treatment, she missed weeks of lessons in the last year of primary school. But thanks to the RMLP, she's ready to jump into high school. A tailored program was developed by her teacher Lorrie Harrison, which gave her the reading and writing skills needed to stay on track. Now she won't be at a disadvantage because of all the schooling she'd missed.
12 year old Graedyn was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2002. A year of chemotherapy disrupted his studies, and he felt discouraged about his setback. But since entering the RMLP in 2006 Graedyn has thrived, developing confidence and self-esteem. His teacher Louise Hampel created an individually designed program that brought him up to speed academically and emotionally. Nice work!
Aaron lost a lot of valuable classroom time while battling leukaemia. This 10 year old was diagnosed when he was nine, and began a gruelling series of daily chemotherapy treatments and hospital visits. As part of the RMLP, a support plan was developed for Aaron to determine his learning strengths and needs. He then received a year of private tuition to help him improve his spelling and grammar. This Sunshine Coast fifth grader is now making great strides in catching up with his peers, thanks to the confidence boosting, RMLP tuition.
This 10 year old boy from Fremantle suffers from a unique gastric condition called multiple juvenile polypsis. Until his surgical procedures, he suffered from abdominal cramps, bleeding and anaemia from polyps found in his intestines and stomach. And although his health was put back on track, his schooling had been left behind. Sam was offered individual lessons as part of the Ronald McDonald Learning Program, that were developed specifically to help him catch up on his classes. And not only did his education improve, he felt much more confident about returning back into school.
